Fellas, if you’re looking for a game that is fun, has a classic feel but also gives you a challenge, look no further.  Soul Calibur V was released in the US on February 2 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The story of the two swords;  Soul Edge which represents evil and Soul Calibur the sword that represents good and true, clash once again. The game takes place 17 years after the events of Soul Calibur IV in 17thcentury Europe. Even though the story line stays the same, it’s the characters as well as the fighting styles that keep the series going and keep you interested. Some of the characters in the previous game are back but not all of them.  For those who don’t know there are three types of fighting styles in the series. There are short weapons with short range but quick hits and low damage. Medium weapons with average range and inflict average damage. And lastly, long weapons with long reach and high damage. Of course it depends on how many combos you can do. Those  characters that didn’t return have been replaced by a descendent or an apprentice. For example, one of my favorite characters Taki, a ninja who uses two swords, isn’t in the game but a new character takes her place. Natsu, who is also a ninja and uses the same fighting style as Taki is possibly a student of Taki, there are alao other new characters like this in the game. Throughout the series there has been a guest character from a popular game or show. In V, Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed guest star’s and wields weapons used from the game like his famous wrist blades. His fighting style is good but once you learn the moves only then can you be an assassin. Unlike most fighting games, Soul Calibur is one that a person can just press buttons and win a fight. You don’t have to actually look at the move list and study it to learn some combos or really enjoy the game. Some characters like Natsucan can be easily picked up without looking at the move list.  You can also create a character and make your character have the same fighting style from the game. To make things more interesting, you can choose the fighting style of Devil Jin from the Tekken series. That’s right Devil Jin’s style is in there, except sadly you cant play as him.  All in all Soul Calibur V is worth the money, and once you get your skills up, pick your sword, go online and test your skills with against an apponent around the world. Now if you will excuse me, I must take my ninja swords and fight some of my homeboys. Or maybe I should use a staff hmm…
