As I prepared to make one of my monthly submissions I began searching for inspiration. It stemmed from a conversation I had with a friend that turned into an internal dialogue I had with myself even after we ending the conversation – Your Faith Must Stand Trial. It’s no secret that we all will, shall, have, or continue to go through some kind of trial or tribulation within our live’s. I don’t want to dwell unto the subject of “trials”, “hardship” or “tribulations” because if that were the case I would have opened the floor to hear the diverse situations that we have all gone through in life, and came out victorious. I would rather you have an understanding of the importance of your faith while going through your trial.

Growing up I’ve heard well-known scriptures about faith and have even memorized some of them in their entirety. From scriptures like “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7) or the popular “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). However somewhere down the road we thought that “faith” would exempt us from calamitous events, especially those that occur causing great loss of life; damage of any kind; confusion and it’s well of emotions, and hardship… But sadly not so! Rather faith is proven in the furnace of affliction and time of adversity. 1 Peter 1:3-7 says it like this: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”

While Hebrews 11 starts by laying the foundation of what is “faith”, it is filled with a brief summary of recognizing men and women of faith that went through troubles and tribulations. It acknowledges some were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection; some were put to death by stoning; some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment, and others went through deserts and places of lack. Despite their distresses and obstacles God saluted them for their magnitude of faith. It wasn’t exemplified by their materialistic possessions or position within society but rather by their faith in God, like Job that said “though they slay me, yet will I trust him” (Job 13:15). Nevertheless it points out that you must go through something, and during this you’re to maintain your integrity, preserve a positive outlook as well as hope.

So apply your faith and stop praying that God will take you out of your situation, for the truth of the matter is you’re coming out, but pray for wisdom and strength because you must endure. Remember, even in the fiery furnace he’s your thermostat – he knows how much you can bear and after you have been tested that you shall and will come out as pure gold!

This is my simple equation:

_____________ = LIFE

You choose the components of your equation, but just know that either way “trials” are a part of the equation of life however how you choose to overcome them is up to you! “Beloved, do not be amazed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your faith, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you”. – 1 Peter 4:12

    Our must stand trial … this so true.! this column has opened up my mind to a new beginning. I now understand that no matter who we are, we all have our trial to go thru. I believe that once we’re able to accept and know this, then we will be more understanding and persistent in our struggles. Serving God the right way isn’t easy; but serving him the wrong way will. @ the Wisdom Kidd…. a very powerful message learn today and great column!!!
