The Way Of The Wayans

Wayans Bros

Wayans brothers
Funny-men. Businessmen. Family-men. These days not necessarily in that order, however the frontmen of the Wayans family are still doing it!

The second born of 9 children, we have come to know Keenen Ivory as the ‘leader’ of the Wayans clan; a modest New York family parented by devout Jehovah’s Witnesses. Keenen dropped out of his scholarship at Tuskegee University (a historically black school in Alabama) to pursue stand-up comedy and be the first of his family to foray into the world of entertainment. Success came after Keenen met his idol Eddie Murphy while performing at a comedy club, after which he co-wrote and appeared in “Eddie Murphy Raw“. Wayans caught the attention of Fox TV, where he created, produced and hosted the hit comedy sketch show “In Living Colour”. This iconic tv show launched the carreers of his brothers Shawn, Marlon and Damon, and sister Kim, as well as Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Tommy Davidson and gave Jennifer Lopez her first television gig. Keenen’s Scary Movie (which he created and directed) vaulted his status behind the camera as the highest grossing movie ever directed by an African-American. The ABFF (American Black Film Festival) being held in Miami July 6-9, has chosen to honor Keenen with its Entertainment Icon Award for his culmination of over 25 years of success and mentorship he has brought to African-Americans in the industry.
We’re all eagerly awaiting the next project from the very talented Wayans.
