Black couple dating

Working in the corporate world is no easy task. Especially when you’re African-American. Not only do you face the typical office politics, but you also become the unofficial ambassador for all things ethnic. Still, in spite of these challenges, talented individuals are arriving and thriving daily.

For Black Men, working the corporate world is like walking a tightrope twenty feet in the air with a crowd of people anxiously waiting for you to fall. Between fighting to prove that you belong and being careful not to step on any toes, most brothers deserve two paychecks for all of the BS they have to deal with. The same goes for Black Women who have to deal with a society that is not only built on racism but sexism as well. Being a Black Woman in a professional setting requires grit and determination with a take-no-shit attitude.

But what happens when the two of them go home together?

After a day of walking on eggshells, the last thing the average Brother wants to do is repeat his high-wire act at home. And after taking charge and lighting a fire under people’s asses all day, many Sisters may find it difficult to come home and play what they feel as a supportive role in a relationship. From all accounts, it’s a difficult impulse to turn off.

No matter what you do for a living, balancing your professional life and a relationship can be a difficult task. Ideally, you leave work at work and try not to take it home. But in the real world, lines get blurred.

All relationships require determination and sacrifice, but I believe these relationships require an additional amount of ego-checking. The man has to be man enough not to be intimidated by a woman who has proven she has the strength and the brains equal to or greater than most other male species. The woman has to understand that she can still be dignified and voice her opinion without cracking the fragile male ego. It’s a tall task, but for the men and women who have navigated the murky corporate waters without being eaten alive, it’s a task that I believe they’re more than capable of handling.

POWER COUPLE, anyone?
