Kanye West debuted his first collection of women’s clothing during Paris Fashion week to very mixed reviews.  His label is called DW by Kanye West.  The initials stand for his late mother’s name Donde West.  Known for his own sense of personal style, it’s no surprise that he has jumped into the fashion arena.

Critics either hated or loved the collection.  It featured a mix of styles featuring zipper details, body-baring items, leather and fur.  It was like high-end street fashion.  All you have to do is visit twitter to see the various responses from good to bad.  One tweeter said, @JessicaMichault “The Kanye West show, in my humble opinion, is proof that everyone can love fashion but not everyone can be a fashion designer.”  Those are pretty harsh words.  On the other hand, Lebron James tweeted @Kanyewest “women’s clothing “DW” is pretty nice.”

With all the criticism he has received for his design capability, some have commented on his lack of Black models on the runway.  Correct me if I’m wrong but,  Chanel Iman was the only one I noticed in the show.  It would have been great for him to utilize more women of color to represent on the runway.

His show was one of the most talked about and he personally selected all those who were in attendance.   Many fashion critics were not impressed with his first attempt at design.  For a spring collection there were items like the furs, which were not appropriate for the season.  But, he is a musician and in the world of entertainment it seems anything goes no matter the time of year.  One only has to look at artists like Rihanna and Lady Gaga to know that.

With his strong celebrity status and regular attendance at fashion shows over the years, West managed to have some heavy players like Anna Wintour, Azzedine Alaïa and Anna Dello Russo in attendance at his show.  There was also Ciara, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Lindsay Lohan in the front row.

Check out this video with shots of the collection and judge for yourself.  What do you think of Kanye’s first undertaking as a fashion designer?  Would you want to see your lady wearing his clothing?

Jimi Hendrix Inspires Jimmy Choo

Filled with plenty of camouflage, suede and snakeskin it's certainly a collection of footwear for a bold man. But there are also some styles that are more subdued in black, chocolate brown and grey.
