Financial Markets | You have to love the internet. The amount of ideas and information that is exchanged on a daily basis is just absolutely astounding. It is an amazing time to be alive. In the last couple of years a number of top tier universities have decided to provide free classes to anyone who wants to take the time to understand how things work. I feel that this is a remarkable thing, as a former educator I love this! I love the idea of free flowing information. It can only have a positive impact on the human race, it can only do but one thing and that is push the bar of human progression even further. As I believe that everybody should constantly be learning, life is a marathon!
Yale has a number of free online courses; you can find them here at http://oyc.yale.edu/
One of the free online courses I would recommend is Robert Shiller’s course on the financial markets. If you are interested in learning about the fundamentals of the Financial Markets I would recommend that you watch these videos. I also know that a lot of people have a math phobia, don’t worry he is an excellent communicator so all the concepts that he discusses are easily understandable and digestible. The course description states:
“An overview of the ideas, methods, and institutions that permit human society to manage risks and foster enterprise. Description of practices today and analysis of prospects for the future. Introduction to risk management and behavioral finance principles to understand the functioning of securities, insurance, and banking industries.”
These lectures will help people understand that finance, even though its name has been dragged through the mud lately, can be used to push the envelope of human progression even further.
