The 69th Annual Golden Globe awards took place last night in Beverly Hills and as usual the stars were out looking their best. Unfortunately with few Black actors nominated, there are not often many who turn up to these events.
We did see a list of talent who arrived looking stellar and even a couple of awards taken home. British actor Idris Elba won the award for Best Actor in a Miniseries for his role in the BBC America crime drama Luther. The actor is known for his roles in films like Thor, Takers and the TV series The Wire.
Legendary actor Morgan Freeman was honoured with the Cecile B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement award. The Oscar nominated actor has thrilled movie-goers for decades in films like Lean On Me, Shawshank Redemption, Million Dollar Baby and Driving Miss Daisy. He is truly one of the industry’s best and most respected actors.
Even with his level of success he always acknowledges those who paved the way for him. Sidney Poitier, who is a legend himself, presented the award to Freeman that night along with actress Helen Mirren. Freeman told the L.A. Times, “Most of us need something to hang our hopes and dreams on; Sidney was my guiding star. I always tell him that,” Freeman said. “I am so honored that he thinks of me as a friend.”
Octavia Spencer was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film The Help. She was glowing with joy and she proved that full-figured women can look just as sexy on the red carpet. Glee star Amber Riley was also looking gorgeous in a red dress showing women everywhere than curvy girls can rock it in Hollywood.
Viola Davis, who was nominated for Best Actress in The Help, also stepped out showing that a woman over 40 can still look amazing. Singer Mary J. Blige was equally a knockout on the carpet.
When it comes to knocking the ball out of the park, many men agreed that Latin beauty Sofia Vergara, who stars in the comedy Modern Family, was a home run.
Actress Paula Patton, wife of singer Robin Thicke, was a real beauty in her yellow strapless dress on the red carpet.
